Hardscape Installation in Los Angeles
Patios, pavers, decks, walls and fire features — the durable structure of a resort-style backyard.
The bones a great backyard is built on
Planting softens a yard, but hardscape gives it shape — the patios you gather on, the walls that hold a hillside, the fire feature you actually use on a cool evening. Done right, it's invisible: the drainage and grading beneath the surface are what keep everything above it stable and beautiful for decades. Done wrong, it's the first thing to crack and settle.

What affects the investment
Every project is priced to its scope — no two are identical. These are the factors that move the number. Typical range: $60K–$250K.
Area & materials
Square footage and the choice of stone, pavers or poured concrete are the biggest drivers.
Drainage & grading
The engineering beneath the surface — where a lasting patio or wall is actually made.
Retaining & structural walls
Height, soil and slope determine how much engineering a wall needs.
Fire & water features
Fire pits, fireplaces and water elements add both wow and cost.
Decks & structures
Elevated decks, pergolas and shade structures scale the project up.
Site access & prep
Tight access, removals and hauling on constrained lots add to labor.
The structure that makes a backyard last
Every hardscape project is scoped around your yard, your home's architecture, and your investment. Here's what your project can typically include.
Engineered drainage & grading
The unseen work that keeps patios, walls and decks stable for decades.
Premium stone & pavers
Material palettes specified to complement the home's architecture.
Fire & water features
Fire pits, fireplaces and water elements built into the design.
Built to endure
Retaining walls and structures engineered for Southern California conditions.
See how we build — from studs to finish
Not stock footage. Real Bela job sites — the framing, the systems behind the walls, and the finish we hand over.

An old garage transformed into a full second-story home — a kitchen and light-filled living room, laundry, a walk-in shower bath and two bedrooms, framed up over the existing garage.

Electrical, plumbing and AC ducting organized and set before a single wall closes — the rigor that makes a home last.

Custom millwork stained to match, new floors, fresh paint and recessed lighting — the level of finish we hand over.

“I feel lucky and fortunate to have worked with Bela Development on a major renovation project! It was an entire renovation on the house that I grew up in — so many details I wanted to keep, while still modernizing the whole home, inside and out…”

Questions, answered
What counts as hardscape?
The built, non-living structure of a yard — patios, walkways, driveways, retaining and seat walls, decks, and fire and water features. Planting and irrigation are landscape; the two are designed together.
How long does hardscape take?
Most projects run 8–14 weeks, depending on square footage, wall work and site access.
Why does drainage matter so much?
Because it's what keeps everything above it stable. Proper grading and drainage, engineered before the first paver goes down, are the difference between a patio that lasts decades and one that cracks and settles in a few years.
Can you build retaining walls on a slope?
Yes — hillside and sloped lots are common here. Wall height, soil and slope dictate the engineering, which we handle and permit where required.
Do you do landscape as well?
We do. Hardscape and planting are designed as one project so the finished yard feels cohesive. See our Landscape Design page for that side.
